Home is Where My Heart is Buried (Syria's Epitaph)

A grave upon the Syrian Soil

There once was a country called Syria.
Within it I lost my heart and spilled my tears.
Because that's where I really wanted home to be after all those years.
So I dug a memory in the grave of eternal hope I believed that land held.
And anticipated its growth like a plant from a seed of wealth.
But two years later when I returned to the rich soil I used to remember,
I found it to be ashes burned by the fuel of an evil September.
So I cried an eternal tear,
knowing that the past, present and future of what I thought would be
could now never be near.
